Panaroma restaurant, located on level 23 of the Crowne Plaza hotel, offers more than tasty international dishes, but a stunning panoramic view of Bangkok as well. This year, it was voted as one of Thailand's best restaurants by elite magazine Thailand Tatler. Diners have the options between intercontinental buffet or a la carte, we went for the buffet lunch today.
The ambience is more upscale and well suited for business lunch. There is an indoor patio section overlooking the city, but it is a smoking section and a bar.
The buffet seems to focus heavily on the grill as there is a wide selection of seafood, meat and skewers more than any other stations. Their seafood was really fresh. The satay skewers were as good as the original ones you get from small shops. The grilled steak was surprisingly tender too.
The salad bar, though smaller and more modest, was perhaps one of the best I've seen. I was impressed by the gigantic bowl of parmesan cheese readily available for your own custom-made caesar salad and wondered how long it would take before you get to the bottom of it.
I made a pretty darn good giant plate of caesar salad, decked out with prawns, tons of bacon and shaved parmesan, procuitto, croutons, and more cheese.
The charcuterie are thinly sliced by the machine shown above. They are sliced in small amounts at a time so they are always fresh.
Pasta wasn't one of my favourite dishes here. The girl who made it wasn't to thrilled about her job and it showed in the flavour of the pasta; tasteless. I had to re-season everything. Other than the grill station, there were only a few mains to choose from. Aside from that I only tried a couple items like the barbecued duck and the red snapper.
I wasn't the only one taking notes that day. There was a film crew there also.
There were lots of decadent selections of European and Thai desserts to choose from and they all looked very tasty. The tiramisu was my favourite.
Panorama has happy hour daily from 4 pm to 6 pm with the promotion of 2 for 1 on classic cocktails. There are lots of signature Thai infused concoctions for the adventurous. I went back to grab a few and enjoyed the view. They have tapas and a la carte available. I had the best rocket salad here with sliced apples, crispy pork, balsamic dressing, and a hint of truffle.
I had great experiences both times here at Panorama, particularly impressed by the level of customer service and professionalism. Food wise, you may have to be selective. I found some dishes were a hit, while many were mediocre. Sticking with the best dishes, combined with the view and the service, then this is one of my favourite places to lounge in Bangkok.
